Dr. Anita Hernandez works at our Spryfield Clinic
Dr. Hernandez studied at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas,
before completing her Residency at the Swedish Cherry Hill in Seattle, Washington, where she served as chief resident and completed a rural health area of concentration. She went on to complete the Fellowship in Obstetrics through Swedish First Hill in Seattle, Washington, receiving training in surgical and advanced obstetrics. She worked for two years in rural Ohio as a hospitalist and primary care physician before moving into academic family medicine at the University of Michigan, where she has been a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology since 2015.
Since 2019, she has been the Service Director for the Family Mother Baby (FMB) inpatient family medicine obstetrical and newborn service, where she has helped to oversee the family medicine obstetrical curriculum for resident physicians, participated in the creation of multidisciplinary clinical guidelines, and helped ensure the provision of high quality maternity care. She developed an interest in adolescent medicine and LGBTQ+ health and became the coordinator of the adolescent medicine elective for medical students based out of the Corner Health Center, a clinic serving young people ages 12-25 and their children. She has a strong passion for health equity and care of marginalized populations which prompted her to serve on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee for the Department of Family Medicine. She practices full-spectrum family medicine, including reproductive health, prenatal care, labor and delivery inclusive of cesarean delivery, and gender-affirming care.
In her free time, Dr. Hernandez enjoys kayaking, all snow-related activities, reading, traveling, vegetable gardening, and spending time with her family.
